Engineering analysis is a major support activity conducted by a dedicated group at our Advanced Technology Center, as well as by individual specialists within the product divisions. These experts work with advanced commercial programs and proprietary analysis programs based on solid mechanics, contact and surface mechanics, fracture and fatigue, and classical elasticity. Their shared goal is to improve materials, manufacturing processes, product design and product performance.
For new products and materials, theoretical analysis in the design stage predicts load capacity, bearing life and other characteristics. Finite element modeling and simulation supports new designs and manufacturing processes to optimize product performance in our customers' applications and shorten product development time.
In addition, Torrington engineers have developed a unique capability to calculate the impact on bearing life of deformations in housings and supporting structures. Continuing analysis and experience have expanded our expertise in bearing kinematics and dynamics, tribological modeling, internal load and stress calculation, lubrication, and heat generation. This strengthens our ability to improve product designs and recommend ways to enhance a customer's entire system.
