Standard shaft material is 52100 through-hardened steel with a surface hardness of 60-64 HRC. In addition to solid designs, a variety of hollow shafts is supplied for planetary gears. Various end forms are available for specific applications, including softer ends to
facilitate staking in automatic transmission planetary carriers.
