Timken is a leading producer of packaged rail bearings for locomotives and rail cars. We also are leading repair experts for these bearings, regardless of manufacturer. Timken Rail Bearing Service repairs, reconditions and/or remanufactures bearings, depending on the severity of wear, and returns them to use for a fraction of the cost of new bearings.
Services include:
Rail bearing reconditioning
This process includes cleaning and inspecting the bearing, fitting them with new parts if needed, requalifyication and reassembly. In all cases, stringent inspection is done to assure the appropriate reconditioning specifications, whether AAR or customer, are followed.
Locomotive journal box conversion
We can modify the Hyatt journal box housing to accept a Timken Class GG bearing. The Hyatt cylindrical bearing assembly requires handling of many more parts than a Timken Class GG bearing 20 versus 7 parts. Assembly is easier with Class GGs and maintenance costs are reduced.

Hyatt locomotive journal bearing reconditioning
Timken Rail Bearing Service has requalified and returned more than 6 million rail bearings. This experience is applied to Hyatt cylindrical bearing locomotive journal boxes. We can repair or return Hyatt units to customers or exchange them for reconditioned units.
Traction motor support bearing reconditioning
More than 28,000 motor suspension units are operating successfully on Timken tapered roller bearings. We supply not only the suspension bearings, but also the MSU tube (with labyrinth seal) assemblies. Benefits include higher reliability, reduced radial clearance, low starting torque, reduced maintenance costs (because the MSU is a self-contained unit) and grease lubrication (no oil levels to maintain).
