Rebuilding a Lost Market
Shelley
Principal Marketing Analyst–Primary Metals Steel, aluminum and other metals are made in massive rolling mills that use hundreds of anti-friction bearings. As a result, this market is one of the prime focuses for The Timken Company...but that wasn't always the case.
Shelley's first major responsibility as a new Timken market analyst was to determine if a new "refocus" strategy for this market was in Timken's best interest. Her success was obvious and as a result, Timken restructured a portion of its management and sales force accordingly. Shelley was put in charge of marketing for this new group.
"I get to take new products from scratch, create the marketing plans, set pricing and provide everything else our associates need to help them make a sale."
Her job comes with some big responsibilities, including things a marketing person wouldn't normally do. But that's not unusual at Timken. "We are all a part of the same team, so you do whatever it takes to help a colleague out and to satisfy the customer.
"The company has very high caliber people and they expect a lot. You have to always be open to learning new concepts and
networking with your global teammates, but that all makes for a really interesting and rewarding job." | |
