BS in Mechanical Engineering Position Description
Project assignments will be in the Product Performance Group. Functional
responsibilities of the Group include establishing performance design
parameters through experimental testing and correlation of actual
test results to Performance Models in conjunction with Product Development
activities.
The Engineer working in the Product Performance Group will develop
and apply skills in experimental design, data analysis through statistical
regression and use current Performance Models for analysis. In addition,
the traditional acquired engineering skills will be applied as part
of the Product Development function.
IBM VM/CMS & Dec VAX interactive computer systems are available
for the Engineer's use, as well as CADAM systems and personal computer
systems for Data Acquisition and special applications.
Work assignments can be as diverse as establishment of Product Performance
improvements for a new design/production process, developing Data
Acquisition programs for experiments or developing performance analysis
models.
Successful handling of project work, combined with on-the-job training,
generally leads to more complex assignments dealing with Product
Development.
Job responsibilities will involve contact with people in many areas
of The Timken Company including Marketing, Quality Assurance, Bearing
Operations and Process Development as examples.
Development engineers are given frequent exposure to executive management
and are being developed for either scientific specialization or
engineering management roles.
