Initial Selected Assignments
The Customer Engineering Departments of the North and South America Bearing Business Unit have primary responsibility for the application engineering and design of Timken tapered roller bearing products. Application engineering includes working with our customers to engineer bearings which meet all application requirements. The product design function includes the responsibility for dimensional tolerance and material specifications as well as detailed geometric dimensions for tapered roller bearings.

The Engineer working in Customer Engineering will apply acquired skills in stress analysis, mechanical design analysis, and material sciences directly to new tapered roller bearing design and application engineering projects and technical enhancements to existing bearing designs. Desktop engineering work stations, PCs and access to mainframes such as IBM and Dec Vax provide the engineer with a full range of tools from presentation software to solid modeling design aids.

The Engineer will receive assignments from department supervision commensurate with abilities and experience and will perform job assignments under the direction of a Senior Design/Application Engineer. Personal job responsibilities will increase with experience gained to include the development of new corporate bearing design projects.

These personal job responsibilities will involve contact with people in virtually all divisions of The Timken Company including research, development, finance, and manufacturing operations as well as communication with international Timken people concerning worldwide corporate bearing design projects.
