Our unique suite of assets significantly strengthens our position as a leader in providing differentiated solutions for the energy, industrial and automotive market sectors, while enhancing our operational performance and customer services capabilities.
In October 2017, we began commercial operation of our Advanced Quench-and-Temper Facility (AQTF) in Canton to produce more value-added steel for demanding applications. The facility has the capacity for 50,000 process-tons annually of 4-inch to 13-inch bars and tubes, and is the largest of our thermal-treat facilities in Canton. Its enhanced processing equipment - including a specialized quench system - meets necessary properties for strength, toughness and corrosion resistance.
Three years prior, on October 21, 2014, we ran the first heat of steel through our jumbo bloom vertical caster at our Faircrest Steel Plant based in Canton, Ohio. The caster, combined with our new ladle refiner, improves productivity, increases capacity and expands our product range, giving us the ability to provide large bar capabilities like no other in the United States.
Our intermediate finishing line for seamless mechanical tubing, brought online in February 2013, focuses on quality, efficiency improvements and safety. The line advances testing quality, reduces processing times and features an environmentally friendly water de-scaling spray system that replaces the former pickling process. Further, it employs lean processes to significantly reduce product handling and material movements. The finishing line provides us with flexibility to better adapt to our customers' changing needs.
Finally, our 3,300-ton in-line forge press, completed in December 2012, offers our customers sound-center engineered steel bars. The forge press uses an innovative large-bar forged-rolled process, which we developed to enhance center soundness of larger cross-sections of our SBQ steel. Combined with our ultrasonic test large-bar inspection line, these forging capabilities reinforce our position as a premier provider of sound-center large bars of up to 16 inches in diameter. The forge press also adds capacity and process efficiencies to our operations.
Combined, these assets allow us to provide our customers with broadest SBQ and seamless mechanical tubing steel capabilities in North America.
